By Linda Cicoira – A mechanical shop positioned at the end of a row of poultry houses on Christine Street north of Parksley was fully involved with fire when firefighters arrived at the scene last Saturday afternoon, according to Chief Willie Kirkpatrick of Parksley Volunteer Fire Company Inc.
An estimated 30,000 to 35,000 gallons of water was used to battle the blaze, Kirkpatrick said. Firefighters from Parksley, Bloxom, Tasley, Onancock, Melfa, Atlantic, and the county department of public safety responded. Oak Hall Rescue also came to the scene.
Kirkpatrick said there were no injuries and none of the nearby structures was damaged.
It took approximately 45 minutes to control the fire. Firefighters were at the site until about 5 p.m. The cause has not been determined.
