Mr. William Otis Lazenby, 85, husband of Mary Rose Lazenby and a resident of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at his home.
Born Nov. 16, 1932, in Shady Dale, Ga., and reared in Onancock, he was a son of the late Otis Persley Lazenby and Jessie Mae Mckenzie Lazenby. Mr. Lazenby proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and would later retire from NASA, where he worked for many years as an aerial photographer. He was a member of the American Legion Chincoteague Post 159 and the Melfa Flying Club. Although flying was Mr. Lazenby’s greatest passion, he also enjoyed fishing and watching Jeff Gordon win NASCAR races. Known as “Mr. Fix It,” he was always tinkering with something, often to his family’s dismay. Mr. Lazenby cherished every moment spent with his family, and he especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His presence will be greatly missed and his memory forever cherished.
In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, he is survived by three children, William Otis “Chuck” Lazenby Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Atlantic, Mae-Lynn Lazenby Wall, of Greenbackville, and Terry Walker Lazenby, of Atlantic; brother, Mack Lazenby and wife, Susan, of Auburn, Ala.; son-in-law, Paul George, of Mappsville; eight grandchildren, Dameion Lazenby and wife, Ellen, of Lynwood, Wash., Lindsay Lang and husband, Jason, of Atlantic, Ross Lazenby and wife, Niki, of Clermont, Fla., Ashlee Buchanan and husband, Walter, of Stockton, Md., Andrea Lazenby, of Maryland, Tommy Wall and fiancé, Angel Haynie, of Pocomoke, Katie Broadwater and husband, Jason, of Salisbury, Md., and Mason George and Taylor Fincen, of Accomac; thirteen great-grandchildren, Riley, who was his granddad’s special buddy, Breanna, Evin, Darcy, Éowyn, Liam, Xen, Devan, Addie, Bryson, Carmine, John, and Austin; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy-Jo Revell, and sisters, Jo Ann Houtman and Margaret Jean Belote.
A service to celebrate Mr. Lazenby’s life was held at the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on July 15, 2018.
