Mr. William D. Coard Jr., 95, husband of the late Annabelle Coard and lifetime resident of Greenbush, passed away on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley.

Mr. Coard was born at home in Greenbush on June 23, 1923, to the late William D. Coard Sr. and Gladys Bull Coard. After attending Accomac School, he served his country in the Army Air Forces, in the 352nd Fighter Group from 1943 to 1945, during World War II. His service included flying seven missions as a tail gunner of a B-29 bomber plane, receiving six bronze stars, and achieving rank of staff sergeant.

In 1953, Mr. Coard opened an auto truck repair shop in Greenbush. In 1969, along with his son, Robert, the shop and service station relocated to Parksley and is still in business. Mr. Coard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying his Cessna airplane.

Mr. Coard was predeceased by his loving wife, Annabelle, to whom he was married for 65 years.

Survivors include a son, Robert W. Coard and his wife, Lorita, and a daughter, Harriet C. Way, all of Greenbush; a granddaughter, Ann Maria Parks and her husband, Ricky; two great-grandsons, Luke and Owen Parks; a great-granddaughter, Sydney Parks; and a niece, Linda Beasley and her husband, John. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Sidney Way.

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Aug. 15, 2018, with Mr. George Fulk officiating. Private interment with military honors, was held at the Edgehill Cemetery.
