Mr. Richard “Rick” Hartman passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2024, in Lewes, Del., at the age of 76. Rick is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Hartman; his children, Beth, Cathy, and Billy; and his grandchildren, Molly, Mary, Hamish, and Alec.
Rick was born on Aug. 6, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Mary and Kenneth Hartman. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1971 with a degree in business engineering.
Rick married his college sweetheart, a teacher, in 1970. After moving to Wilmington, Del., Rick began working for ACandS as an engineer/salesman. Over the next few years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. His children remember him as an honest, hardworking, kind, funny, and personable father who encouraged them to remember “a stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet.”
Rick enjoyed sailing, boating, crabbing, and fishing at the family’s vacation home in Exmore. He was a friendly and confident individual who loved a good party, cared for his family, and enjoyed life.
Rick was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity and remained good friends with his fraternity brothers over the years. A celebration of life was held on Friday, April 19, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Irish Eyes, 213 Anglers Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
