The body of a man found in a Chincoteague Island house fire has been identified.

Daniel J. Fernandez, 62, was found dead in the home in the 6300 block of Circle Drive, Chincoteague, said state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

She said the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.

“At this stage of the investigation, the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature,” she said.

The fire was reported on Wednesday, May 22, at 6:30 a.m.

Units and personnel from Chincoteague, Wallops, Atlantic, New Church, Greenbackville, and Bloxom responded.
